Here is a list of things you should know about me that may influence your decision to hire me:
- I am a Baptist with Reformed leanings. Though I don’t often use the term, most would label me as a five point Calvinist. My eschatology leans toward Amillennialism but I don’t fully subscribe to it. There are points of Historical Premillennialism that I can embrace.
- I believe in a plurality of elders. I believe the church should be led by spiritual men who are constant in prayer, who minister God’s word, and who are intentionally following the lead of Jesus. I don’t care if you call them elders or deacons, they should have the authority to lead that comes from close relationship with God. These men should be mutually supportive and mutually accountable for the good of the church.
- I believe in the Sabbath. I’m not as concerned about what day it is celebrated (though I believe most should celebrate it on Sunday). I believe it is best for all Christians to take one day in seven to rest from their work and to delight in God. Ideally this would include corporate worship, personal prayer, feasting, and engaging in restorative practices (observing nature, play, friendship, exercise, and other activities that may bring someone joy in God).
- I am okay with people drinking alcohol in moderation. I believe the choice to abstain from alcohol or other foods is a personal decision before God. Drinking only becomes a sin when it crosses into drunkenness or when it causes someone else to stumble (return to previous sinful patterns). See Romans 14.
If any of the above causes you concern, I’d be happy to discuss it further. I just want you to know these things in advance.
